How Normal Lungs Function Work
Lungs function will work well if they are in normal condition. Breathing is one of the most important things in every creature alive. By breathing, you will get the oxygen supply and as we all know, oxygen is a thing that will keep your life goes on. The oxygen will enter your lungs through the airway and then you can breathe. After we inhaled the oxygen and processed by lungs, we will throw out the carbon dioxide through the breathe-out way.

The respiratory system
When you are breathing, it passes through the respiratory system. The air flows up through your nose and sometimes mouth to the throat. It goes to the voice box and gets down to the trachea or windpipe. After reached this stage, the air will face two main airways called right and left bronchial tubes. These tubes contain many smaller airways inside called bronchioles. There are muscles that are crisscrossing on each other that wrapped the airways around. Every person has no control over those muscles. The air will continue the flow until it reaches the alveoli. After that, the oxygen will be taken to the blood.
Remove the mucus and clean the air
We inhaled the air and never know all substances contained by free air. This is why we need the filter to remove unnecessary substances contained by the air. Your nose has the ability to clean the air but only partially. There is a substance called mucus that will clear the rest so the air will be safety for your lungs. Mucus will remove the germs and dirt in the airways due to the free air you have been inhaled. There is also a soft brush called cilia that work as the mucus removal. Cilia only clear out the dirty mucus.
The air can be too dry and it basically could damage the tiny space of air inside your lung. This is why your lungs need to moisturize the air for you. Lungs moisturize the air by absorbing enough water through the airways. Thus, you need to eat and drink healthily so the air will be healthily moisturized.
The breathing muscles
When you try to breathe, it needs some muscles after all. If you ever heard about diaphragm muscle, well, that is the main muscle you need to breathe. The muscle is large and located between the abs and chest. When you breathe in, the diaphragm will move down and let the air comes into the lungs. Besides diaphragm muscle, there are other muscles that can be used for breathing like shoulder and neck muscle as well as muscle that stays between your ribs. If you want to get longer breathe then you better use diaphragm. Singers use diaphragm muscle to breathe in order to create head voice.
Well, this is the explanation about how the normal lungs work. It is important to maintain the health of your lungs since this is an important organ to keep you alive. When your lungs are not in good condition it can make less effective lungs function.
